Preschool Semester 2

I have been thinking about getting the information to all of the parents and keep putting it off. I was thankful for a reminder tonight so here it is:) I thought I would put it on here in case any one else wants to use it or for parents to talk about/watch at home. I am enjoying the time I am getting to spend with the preschoolers and I love seeing how much they take in. We are also trying to do more and more hands on things but you’ll have to come see to learn about that.

We have incorporated a “calendar time” this semester which the kids love. We talk about birthdays and holidays and have been learning the days of the week and months of the year songs.

Days of the week to the tune of “Where is Thumbkin”
And month of the year to “Battle Hymn of the Republic”

I am loving the new book The Ology and we have been using it with a catechism (questions and answers)  that are the building blocks of the Christian faith. There is a CD with the book and most of the songs are on YouTube. I use The Biggest Story and Big Truths for Young Hearts to supplement and prepare.

We have been doing a letter of the week using the ABC’s of Church History.

Because we have been learning church history and theology I thought it would be appropriate to start memorizing the apostles creed. In case you have heard from your children say that they believe in the holy catholic church I’ll explain:
1. Notice the “c” not “C” in catholic. This is not the Roman Catholic church but the universal or true church.
2. All of the videos that I found use the phrase. (link includes video we have used)
3. We are studying church history and so I will leave the phrase that was originally included by a large group of Christians that were much smarter than me;)

The phrase “he (Jesus) descended to hell” is also difficult. But I haven’t removed it either and here is why:
1. Read this article.
2. I have told the kids the simple version of the above ariticle that Jesus cheered that He had defeated death.
3. In the early church where many Christians were martyred for their belief in Jesus it was a huge hope and joy that Jesus had truly defeated death!

Here is the creed:
I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
the Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord:
Who was conceived of the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into hell.
The third day He arose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty,
whence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.

And here are some of the other songs from YouTube:
